School Governors

Marion Sherriff Chair of Governors

As a retired Head of English in a large Comprehensive School, Marion brings to this office considerable experience of Secondary Education. She has been involved with Special Education as a governor, for nearly ten years. She was  elected Chair of the Temporary Governing Body when the Development of Special Educational Provision was in its early stages and then became Chair of the Permanent Governing Body in September 2007.

Marion has lived in Rochdale for over thirty years and has played her part in a number of charitable and voluntary organisations. She currently leads a project at Buckley Hall Prison, ‘Story Book Dads’. This encourages prisoners to keep in contact with their children through reading stories which are recorded onto DVD’s. These along with the book are then sent home to the family.

Marion is an active member of the Methodist Church and has been a Fully Accredited Local Preacher for over forty years.

Her hobbies include water colour painting, the flute and the piano.

She is married with two grown up children, both of whom work with people with Learning Disabilities.

Redwood School’s Governing Body.

An essential element of a successful school is a committed and active governing body. This, I believe, is what we have at Redwood. I have been impressed by the interest and dedication shown by governors.  Governors meetings are well attended and we are always ready to grasp difficult issues in order that our pupils experience a high quality of education.

The membership reflects a number of the school’s stakeholders : parents, staff, community and the Local Authority.

We see our role as one of informed and active support to both staff and pupils and this is evidenced in the close working relationship we have with the Headteacher.

We believe the foundations are being laid by the present staff and management for a school which will ensure each child achieves their full potential.

’ Every Child Matters’ is not just the latest ‘buzz phrase ‘ but an attitude to education in which we all deeply believe.

I am proud to lead such a Governing Body.
